LEAKEing with Suspicion
When most think of the Cincinnati Reds they think of a fledgling team that always seemed to have some of the best sluggers in baseball, but never won anything because they used to take pitchers off the scrap heap. That has all changed in recent years when they started drafting decent pitchers & letting their aging sluggers go to be replaced by far superior sluggers.
Unfortunately the team never expected that someone they’ve given millions of dollars to in the last three years would be caught shoplifting a few $9.99 t-shirts from Macy’s but that’s exactly what they find themselves dealing with today.
As a star at Arizone State Mike Leake probably didn’t have the time to shoplift as a kid because he was working hard on becoming one of the few players in the history of baseball who didn’t spend at least three years in the majors before joining MLB. That is more a testament to how bad the Reds pitching staff was a few years ago than an indication of Leake’s talent.
As David Brown of Yahoo Sports reported Leake stole 6 shirts that were $9.99 a piece from a local Macy’s department store. Video cameras caught him stealing the items & removing the security tags. Supposedly the shirts were called American Rags (sounds classy). Leake could face up to 6 months in jail if convicted. The Reds have been quiet in the matter due to it being a legal proceeding, but Brown’s article states Leake was tweeting to people shortly after the arrest.
It’d be one thing if he was stealing a World Series ring from Buster Posey but stealing $10 shirts when you make half a million dollars a year. I guess he figured the government can get away with stealing, why can’t he?
